Dear Friends,
|
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about nimesha and unmesha spanda (the energies of the sacred pulsation of the universe at it contracts and expands). We are currently in the darkest time of year, a season which asks us to turn inward and be calm and reflective,
yet the cultural traditions of this time of year ask us to turn outward, extend ourselves, and be social. We can use this time of year to honor both the movement outward and the draw toward inner contemplation. Whichever holidays you celebrate at this time of year (if any), I invite you to take time out for yoga and meditation. Dr. Douglas Brooks,
a scholar of tantric philosophy and one of my teachers, says, "The more we go inside to know ourselves, the more and with greater facility, ease, and sweetness we connect outwardly to the world."
Wishing you a happy holiday season,
Kendra

This weekend, I put together an online yoga class to share with you, my dear e-newsletter subscribers. I started out with the intention of putting together a 15-minute sequence, and when I was done it was 42 minutes long! So that is my offering. I hope that, in the next few weeks, this can assist you in taking time for yourself, turning inward, and reflecting. To access, the class, click here and enter the password kula2009 when prompted. Enjoy!

Thoughts on exploring voice and shadow through yoga
|
|
How do I use my yoga to discover and connect with my truth and to help me share that truth with the world? What voice do I express with my yoga poses?
The voice of our yoga is defined more by how we respond to ourselves (and others) than by the actual states and abilities of our physical bodies. For example, if I am presented with physical tightness and shakiness when I come to my mat, then that is what I have to work with, but the voice of my yoga does not have to be tight and shaky. I can align with consciousness and be accepting and compassionate with myself in my tightness, and therefore express a graceful, fluid voice. Read more. . .
