About Kendra
Kendra Hodgson is a playful and passionate yoga teacher (formerly licensed as Anusara-Inspired), a Certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) Practitioner, and a dedicated student of Rajanaka Tantra philosophy.
Kendra first discovered the healing potential of yoga in the basement of a local gym in 2001. She was drawn to the way the practice nourished and held her spirit, as well as the way it challenged her physically and calmed her racing mind. And the alignment principles quite quickly relieved low-grade, ongoing pain that she had been experiencing in her low back and neck for years.
She completed her first Teacher Training with her Sara Rose (director of Yoga Sanctuary) and has been privileged to do subsequent Teacher Trainings with Sarah Faircloth, Ross Rayburn, Amy Ippoliti, Christina Sell, and Noah Mazé, as well as a 5-Day Anatomy & Therapy Training with Martin Kirk. She studies Rajanaka Tantra with Douglas Brooks and is currently living the theme of expanding into fullness. She feels deep gratitude for the wisdom, guidance, and challenge gifted to her by all of her teachers.
In fall 2010, Kendra co-founded (together with Yoga Sanctuary friends Allison Page, Laura Betts, and Grace Johnston) the Kula Project, a group dedicated to expanding the consciousness of the yoga community to include engagement with issues of social justice and social activism and enriching the activist community through participation in yoga and embodied practices. She believes and teaches that our yoga extends far beyond the reaches of our mats.
Kendra is currently collaborating with friends, teachers, and colleagues to develop and birth the Yoga Coalition.
On her path to teaching yoga, Kendra has been a high school English teacher (Punahou School, HI), a wilderness trip leader, a ropes course facilitator, a track/cross country coach, a peer helping advisor, a waitress, a mentor, an equestrian, a marathon runner, and an Eating Disorder Awareness coordinator. She is also currently the Director of Marketing & Distribution for the Northampton-based nonprofit Media Education Foundation and a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner. She believes deeply in the wisdom of the body, the beauty of life, and the resilience of the spirit. She and her husband, Boysen, live in a sweet Arts & Crafts era home in Springfield with their cherished dog, Freya, who teaches them, every day, what it looks like to fully enjoy embodiment.
